Effective Control of False Codling Moth, Macadamia Nut Borer & Litchi Moth Larvae
MultiMax is a patented, virus-based biopesticide designed for effective control of tortricid larvae, including False Codling Moth (FCM), Macadamia Nut Borer (MNB), and Litchi Moth (LM). It offers growers a safer, reliable alternative for population management, reducing pest pressure and infestation risk as fruit becomes increasingly vulnerable to larval attack. By maintaining low pest populations across orchards, MultiMax supports area-wide management, protects fruit leading up to harvest, and helps minimise the number of infested fruits reaching the packhouse. This, in turn, reduces the risk of exceeding pre-packhouse FMS thresholds and safeguards market access.
Target: False Codling Moth, Macadamia Nut Borer, Litchi Moth Larvae
Registered Crops: Litchi & Tree Nut Crops

Benefits

No Phytotoxicity
Field trials have shown that MultiMax causes no phytotoxicity at any application rate.

Environmentally Friendly
MultiMax has no negative impact on beneficial insects, pollinators or other non-target organisms.

Resistance
As a naturally occurring virus specific to the tortricid family, larvae cannot develop resistance to MultiMax.

IPM Friendly
MultiMax integrates seamlessly into an Integrated Pest Management (IPM) programme.

Proven Efficacy
Product trials have demonstrated up to 92.2% efficacy against target larvae.

MRL Management
MultiMax can be applied up to harvest without concern for MRL residues, ensuring compliance and safe use.

How does it work?
- MultiMax is applied directly to crops.
- Tortricid larvae ingest the virus from the treated fruit surface.
- The virus’s protective protein layer is broken down by the high pH in the larval midgut. It is then absorbed by the microvilli, where replication begins in the nuclei of midgut cells.
- The virus spreads throughout the larva, triggering secondary replication.
- The infected larvae die, releasing virus particles into the environment and causing secondary infections in other larvae..
Efficacy & Trial Data
Several trials were conducted for the registration of MultiMax, with some data shown on the right.
Results demonstrate that MultiMax, when applied to tree nut crops such as macadamia, delivers control comparable to registered chemical standards, achieving 92.2% control of Macadamia Nut Borer (MNB) and 88.9% control of False Codling Moth (FCM).
This is achieved without chemical residues and without the risk of resistance development.
